Modern Warfare: A Reflection at the Verge of World War III (1)

According to Geneva Academy, the world is currently facing more than 100 armed-conflicts. In the Middle East, more than 40 conflicts erupted, with the most prominent are the Zionist occupier’s genocide in Gaza and its atrocities in West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and recently, Iran, which had just escalated by the involvement of USA. In Africa, more than 30 non-international armed conflicts (NIACs) occurred; some against government, and some against each other. Asia holds 19 conflicts, like India-Pakistan, India-China, and several NIACs. Europe has 7 conflicts with military occupations as the majority. The most prominent, is the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as well as lesser ones South Ossetia-Abkhazia and Armenia-Azerbaijan. In Latin America, 6 NIACs occurred which are related to criminal organizations in Mexico and Colombia.

With the boiled conflict in the Middle East could potentially spill over to neighbouring States, a lot of experts and analysts around the world are nervously predicted the upcoming World War III. When we talk about armed conflict, especially the ones that already escalated into a war, what comes to mind are what kind of weapons used, how many troops deployed, and how the strategy played out.

Arms race occurred during the war, whenever a State tried to outgun other State’s military prowess. In World War I (1914-1918), machine guns, chemical weapons, artillery and armoured-vehicle usage was widespread, including the early adoption of tanks and military aircraft; less than two decades of the first flight of Kitty Hawk by Wright Brothers in 1903. In World War II, the importance of heavier tanks, the need for capable naval force and the significance of aerial supremacy arose. At the end of the war saw the first use of tactical nuclear weapons; the Little Boy and the Fat Man dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, respectively. During the Cold War, western bloc and eastern bloc develop tactical nuclear weapons, heavier main battle tanks, stealthier submarines, supersonic bomber and fighter jets.

These will raise questions, like how the next world war would happen?
On the next few chapter, I will try to explain (based on my limited knowledge as a mil-tech observer since 2008) how the war on land, sea, air, and other domain will happen. Stay tune, Guys
