Modern Warfare: A Reflection at the Verge of World War III (1)

Gambar
No, it's not a scene from Meteor Garden. It's a missile shower from Iran According to the Geneva Academy, over 100 armed conflicts are currently raging around the world, with the Middle East alone accounting for more than 40. Among these, the Zionist occupier's genocide in Gaza and its operations in the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen—and recently, escalations involving U.S. intervention in Iran—stand out as especially severe. Africa is home to more than 30 non-international armed conflicts (NIACs), some pitting governments against insurgents, others fought between rival groups. In Asia, 19 sizzling flashpoints—like India–Pakistan and India–China—continue to threaten stability, alongside additional NIACs. Europe has seven active conflicts, mostly involving military occupations, led by Russia’s war in Ukraine and smaller but persistent flashpoints in South Ossetia–Abkhazia and Armenia–Azerbaijan. Latin America also struggles with six NIACs, primarily driven by criminal orga...

(Indian) Ocean 14

Gambar
No, it's not a sequel to the 2007 heist comedy film . It’s about the course I’m currently attending. Previously , I wrote about how I ended up in Canberra—yet  another city  I never imagined myself living in. But here I am, surrounded by friends from across the Indian Ocean region. This program is sponsored by the  Australian Border Force College  in collaboration with the Australian National University. Officially named the  Graduate Certificate of Law , it’s a postgraduate program at ANU’s College of Law. Designed for graduates from non-law disciplines, it provides a deeper understanding of Australian and international legal systems and serves as a pathway to the Master of Laws (LLM). The program was specifically offered to participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives—collectively recognized by the ABF as Indian Ocean Region Maritime Security Partners . And so, here we are—14 individuals from diverse backgrounds, delving i...

Yes, I'm Not Fun at Parties

Gambar
It's August. A celebratory month for Indonesian, since this year we celebrate our 79th year of independence from the collonial.  Hooray. Every corner of this country was painted red and white.  Fun games are being held nearly everywhere; from crowded city alley to village field close to the forest; from elementary school to the campuses; from private-owned business to the govermental institution. My office is no exception. Various competition with a variety of prize. Everybody should be having fun, right? But somehow, despite all the crowd, i felt empty inside. What's the point of celebrating independece, while our country is not really in a good state? We shouted "merdeka" everywhere, but in reality, we are trapped in poverty and economical inequity; our economy seems huge, globally, but upon further inspection, the gap between class is widening at an alarming rate.  We're at the verge of ecological collapse; big corporation were given land concensus for extracti...

I fell for the ocean, quite literally

Gambar
That title above is self explanatory. During a trip from Tarakan to Nunukan by a hi-speed ferry, i fell just before boarding the ship, at the lower part of the dock. The reason? It was slippery. Like, very slippery. Because of the tides, the lower part of the dock will be submerged sometimes. I could tell by the mussels and the thin layer of mud. But i was pretty ignorant, and a lil bit overconfident, thinking that i wouldn't fall since several times during my sea patrol duties, i never fell even once. So this is the first lesson of it; arrogancy could be your first step to downfall, quite literally. Next question, why did i came to the lower part of the deck? Well, just like those careless internet personality who fell from a tower, bridge or anything, i wanted to get a good pict. And this is the last pict i took. Pretty lame for the price. The pain is temporary, but the memory . . . The second lesson: watch your steps, quite literally. We might already heard that caution a thous...

Change Cannot Be Chained

Gambar
The sun rises every day as we know it, and never once in time has it failed to rise. And no matter how much we love its beautiful rays, they will eventually set, leaving darkness to come. The wind blows around the world, carrying clouds and sometimes bringing storms, only for us to wait for it to pass by, unstoppable. And when all hopes seem to fade, it stops. Bringing back the sun's rays and the gentle breeze. The river flows steadily, looking forward to merging with the ocean. Whatever the obstacle, no matter how slow, it will always find its way to flow. And once it arrives, it suddenly arises, heated by the sun, forming clouds, and brought by the wind, raining down again, only to continue its cycle. The mountain, pushed by tectonic plates below, patiently built itself up. Inches by inches, it grew. Rise above its surrounding land. Once it reached its highest peak possible, things began to change again, like everything else. The weather wears it down. Rain and snow erode its t...

New Year New Resolution for Our Not-new Planet

Gambar
I never understand the meaning of celebrating new year with tons of explosives polluting the sky, ear-torturing trumpet and gallons of unhealthy drinks, only to live as lame as before. For some people, that's joy. For me? That's nonsense. New year has nothing to do with celebration. That's just our rocky planet finishing one round of its eternal race against time around its sun.  A new beginning of a certain unit of time. Just the same as every morning, a start of a brand new day. Or every time our moon repeat its monthly cycle. Nothing special to be proud of, unless we are battling life-threatening diseae, or surviving a catastrophic event, or finding a reasonably close habitable planet to move on, there's nothing to be celebrated over a new calendar year.   I mean, if we really need to celebrate, celebrate an achievement. Like finishing a new and challenging task. Accepted at a new (and better) workplace. Acquiring new business. Mastering new skill. Learning new langu...

Untethered

Gambar
Travelling by plane always amuses me. When the thundering roar of the twin turbojet propels the hundred-tonnes machine into the air, for a few moment i feel untethered to the earth. Of course i didn't escape the invisible gravity of it-the plane didn't even reach half of the escape velocity needed- but what i'm saying is the feeling when your feet didn't connected to the ground below. By the time the wheels of the plane leave the runaway, so does the earthly bound that connected us all. It just snapped to me. Like an unthetered kite. And i feel like some sore of transcended into different being, watching the earth below. Seeing the skycrapper we used to proud of, seems to be indistinguishable from any other building, made me realize puny humas are. We are just an insignificant being in this planet. Yet we left behind a massively significant trace. The carbon footprint & greenhouse gas. The global waste. The burnt rainforest. The melting icecaps on the mountains and ...

What A Strange World We Live In

Gambar
Well, several days after the beginning of Russian invasion into Ukraine, here's what we got: Russian Armed Force is not as strong as their claim While being the second largest in the world quantitatively, we could say that qualitatively, they are not. Several reason for it: Most of their equipment are obsolete. Some are relatively new, but it couldn't make up for overall antiquity of their war machines Poor tactics by the leader. While having numerical advantage, the plan didn't executed well... or the plan itself doesn't seem to work well, therefore couldn't say it's a good plan. Especially in regard to logistic support. Lots of their war machines are abandoned without ammo or fuel to continue the war efforts. Poor geographical knowledge. We could see numerous footage of Russian tanks, APC, IFV, or artillery stuck in the mud. Poor morale. Even many Russians are against the war. There are lots of footage of surrendered Russian Army, abandoning their mission bec...

до біса війна

I've been always condemn violence . Especially unprovoked one.  I always hate US Govt for their military action in Iraq and Libya, and any other places where they spill innocent people's blood for their own agenda. I always hate the zionist for what they did (and still doing) in Palestine. To a lesser extent, I hate NATO too, bcos they're just like US cheerleader, joining them whenever the war is happening. (Doesn't mean i support Saddam or Khadaffi, though. But under them, their country might be in a better state, not as destroyed as after US send them democracy and freedom via F-16 and barrages of tomahawk missiles). For some reason, maybe since 9/11 and George W. Bush started war on terrorism (or more like war on Islam), Russia always stood on the opposite side, somehow counterbalancing USA's global influence. Putin stood high like a single knight countering USA's dominance in the global theatre. I remember countries like Iran, Bolivia, Venezuela were called ...

It's Been Six Years

Gambar
6 years ago today. . . The guests headed home. The light dimed. The music stopped. The party had just ended, but our journey had just began. 6 years ago today. . . I started to take responsibility for all you'd do. From that time and on, your every needs is my duty. 6 years ago today. . . We started our voyage, on the same ship. Waves weren't always gentle, storm were approaching, sometime in subtle. But we sail on and on, hoping to reach our destination. I might be imperfect, but hey, i've tried my best. I might be imperfect, just as you. But we are perfectly made for each other, i think. I might be imperfect, but please bear with me, stay with me. for our journey would be far beyond this world, into eternity.

Top 3 Silly Moments of My Children (Beware: Disturbing Content)

Being a parents of two (around 5yo and 2 yo) in this challenging era is such a roller coaster of an emotion. One moment, their sweetness would melt you, and you'd feel like you'll do anything to protect them. One moment later, they'll made your anger erupt like a volcano. At one second, their silly little action would made you laugh your ass off. Seconds later, you'll be the one in tears hoping them to obey your instruction. However, i just wanna remember their funniest moment for now. I want to remember them as my source of laughter and joy, rather than as two little monsters who robbed our energy almost every time.  And here is my list of top silly moments of each my children. Aira, a very talkative nearly-5 years old kid, is a combo of curiosity, creativity, mischief and stubbornness. She was once a sweet child, but maybe her jealousy over her little bro get over her, making her being such a troublemaker she is right now. But she had several silly moments with me, an...

Lord Brokensword and The Butcher's Son (3)

A sweet womem named Raksi was born in a humble peasant family at the unconquered land. During her childhood, she had always wore used clothes from her older sibling, or a rough home sewn clothes. When young Raksi wanted to change her life, she went to neighboring city, worked as textile trader's employee. It was like a dream job for her, since she could touch various hi-quality textile and garments, although not owning it, yet. She rarely visited her family back in the land, because there was so much suffering she endured there, and she was quite happy with her new life.  But for one moment, when she went back to her family's house, a fateful meeting happened. She was on a cart on the way home, when she saw several unfamiliar men near her family's house. Lord Baroush stood there dashingly, his brown  horse nearby. He was looking for a good tailor to make his men's uniform. His squad only had a formal uniform sewn by The Kingdom's tailors, but they also needed field ...

Lord Brokensword and The Butcher's Son (chapter 2)

The Lord of The Unconquered Land (from now on we will call him by his real name, Baroush of The Jungle) was raised by a family of lumberjack. His father taught him about woodcrafting since his childhood, and although he wasn't not the brightest among his 7 brothers, he was a hardworker. He was always a man of action, did little talk and always focused on his goal. Not to say that he never taste fall, defeat or humiliation, but a determined one who always know to stand up after each fall in life. Due to his hardwork, he climbed his rank to be one of the kingdom's carpenter.  At the beginning, he was tasked to make a wooden weapon for the soldier to train, and he always delivered the best result. A wooden weapon was just meant as a mean to familiarize newly recruited soldier with real weapon, but he decorated each of it with a unique ornament, earning popularity among the trained soldier. Even senior soldiers often asked him to made them personal ornamental items. The King aknowl...

Lord Brokensword and The Butcher's Son

Once upon a time, in a peaceful side of a kingdom, live a rich landlord with his family. He was so rich, that any report of a stealing of his treasury never bothered him. He ruled over this piece of land given by The King with great wisdom, albeit a twisted one. This piece of land given to him by The King, was a wasteland. He was one of the king's bravest warrior, who accompanied him through many battles. During one of their journey of conquest, they came across this abandoned piece of land, and he thought 'what a waste, a land this vast but noone conquered'. The locals said that the land was cursed, so nobody came to cultivate this peaceful land. He then humbly asked The King to lead a party with a mission 'to change this wasteful piece of earth into one of the kingdom's most fruitful garden'. A very brave bet, indeed. But The King granted him the request anyway. He thought that nobody would be bothered anyway, so with the power he had, The King appointed him t...

Blogger on Board (4): What to Cope on Board

Gambar
Finally, after a week at the harbour, the ship started to move. I was so excited to feel the adventure lies ahead of me. This is my first duty on board (as i told you several days ago ) and the first time i'd be travelling on a ship for a longer period (my last trip with ferry lasted about an hour or so, from Batam to Tanjung Balai Karimun vice versa). Yohohohoho. Finally i had a chance to feel what our dear Marine Customs Officers (or i'd rather say, Crews?) feel everyday, first hand. And somehow i ended up written it in English (unlike my previous posts). It's been a long time since my last English-written article , so feel free to correct my grammatical errors. Sooo, this is my notes about (obviously written on the title) 'what to cope on board'. Let's check it out:

How to Avoid Organizational Exctinction

Gambar
Few days ago, my friends from several other DGCE office are talking about the obstacles they faced in maintaining the existence of English Club at their own respective office. Now, based on what my mentor said earlier , i'd love to share a tips for you guys, about how to maintain the existance of our organization (not only english club, it could be applied to other form of learning-type organization as well). Basically, what we need are 4 C s. What are those C s?

Raising Kids is Like Riding a Roller Coaster

Raising kid(s) is like riding a roller coaster; at first, you might be both nervous and hyped. But once you are on, there’s no way back You’ll feel the happiness, you’ll feel the worry, you’ll afraid whether u can finish it or not When seeing his/her first smile, you’ll be overwhelmed with joy and happiness But once your kid(s) sick/hurt/injured, you might be very afraid, nervous, worry, and else But overall, it’s an experience you’d love to share with other people And here I am, a new daddy, raisin' my newborn baby with my wife and family I know, most parenting blogs out there are written by the mom, but why not? I'm a blogger, and I'm a dad, so why not? Moreover, it's called "parenting", not only "mothering" or "fathering", right? I'll be glad to share my experience so another parents maybe could benefit from my postings, hopefully.

Insects

Gambar
Insects never fail to amuse me. They come in various color (ranging from all-black ants to metalic beetles), size (from less than a milimeter ants again  to palm-sized moth), and shape (from unique mantis to stick-like phasmidas). And now I just wanna share some of my insect photo gallery. Comments and input are appreciated. All photos are taken from my Sony Cyber-Shot DCS WX-300. Its macro photo quality isn't the best, but quite acceptable considering it's just a non-professional pocket camera (not to mention that the photographer is still an amateur).

"...with great power, comes great responsibility"

Familiar with that phrase? Yeah, maybe most of us ever heard of it at least once, from a hollywood movie Spider-man (actually spoken by Spiderman's Uncle Ben). I don't really know who brought this phrase for the first time, and I don't really care bout it. But somehow I found that this phrase makes sense, especially when you are given more responsibility by other people. At work, everybody have their own part, their own tasks, their own responsibility about some matters. And there're always exixt some individuals with more tasks to do, with more responsibility given to them by their bosses (or leaders). Logically, people will only ask for a help to someone that they certainly know about, that the person will be able to help them. You won't ask a cook to repair your car, you'll ask a mechanist instead (unless the cook is a multitalented too). You won't ask a math teacher to cure a diseae, you'll have to count on a doctor to deal with diseae, right? Th...

What I've Got From ICEC Today

Today we have some kind of speech training. Here I want to make a description about our training today so that dear readers can also practice it themselves : coach give a member certain random word the chosen member has 30 seconds to build up what he want to say then the chosen member will have to talk about that topic for about 2.30 minutes the given time can be modified depends on you; the thinking time can be lengthened up to 5 minutes for longer speech, also can be reduced to 0 seconds to train your spontaneous reaction as I say. Optimizad speech is about 7-10 minutes, but it's vary from person to person From what we did this morning, there's some conclusion that I've got : it's easier to talk about something specific . for example, if you're given a word "love", it's a very wide topic, and you might start to make an unfocused speech. When a word "warplane" si given, you might be able to tell the audience about the history of w...
